MEET OUR STAFF
In addition to serving as a pastor, James has also had the privilege of being a high school boys basketball coach for the past five seasons, a high school girls softball coach for two seasons, and he just finished a season as a high school baseball coach. In his free-time James enjoys watching sporting events of all kinds. His favorite teams to follow include the Kansas City Royals, the Kansas State Wildcat football team, and the Dallas Cowboys. He also enjoys hiking and walking his dog.
Introducing Zion Church's Senior Pastor, James Byers
The Rev. James Byers and his wife Jenna both grew up in rural small Kansas towns. They met in high school and have been married for over 27 years. They have been serving in ministry together for over 25 years. James began his ministry back in 1996, as a full-time Youth Director when he was 21 years old. After completing his undergraduate work at Pittsburg State University in Pittsburg, Kansas, the family moved to Iowa where James completed his seminary graduate work at The University of Dubuque Theological Seminary.
James and Jenna have served congregations in Kansas, Iowa, Texas and North Carolina. At the present time he is serving as the Senior Pastor at First Christian Church in Wellington, Kansas and the Solo Pastor at Community Church of South Haven, Kansas. James and Jenna say they have been blessed along their journey in ministry as they have loved every congregation they have served and have made so many close and dear friends in the congregations. While they have served in all types of settings and sizes of churches (from congregations of 60 to 1000 members) they feel that small town and rural ministry is where the Lord seems to use them best.
